Demonstrating Nanobubbles Technology for more Sustainable and Efficient Urban Wastewater Treatment.
Clean-up of wastewaters is a major problem into all European Countries, as the processes that are currently been used have a high energy demand and produce a big environmental footprint. In fact, between the 50% and 60% of the energy demand in an urban wastewater treatment plant is produced by the aeration systems in the secondary treatment, so the improvement of the efficiency of such aeration systems is a key issue that must be addressed urgently.
In this context, the main objective of the LIFE-NANOBUBBLES Project is to demonstrate the technical, environmental and economic feasibility of the innovative Nanobubbles Technology as an efficient, environmentally-friendly and low-cost alternative to traditional aerators in urban wastewater treatment plants.
The main expected impacts of the project are:
– An efficiency 13 times higher compared to the current commercial aeration systems.
– Reduction by 70% of the energy consumption per m3 of treated water and therefore, in the GHG emissions.
– Reduction by 50% of sludge production compared to other aerobic processes.
– Reduction by 60% of the operational costs and by 30% of the CAPEX.
