DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT LIFE MCUBO
LIFE MCUBO LIFE15 ENV/ES/000379 Modelling, Measurement and Improvement of the water management environmental impact in the food Industry.
LIFE MCUBO is an european Project, included in the LIFE Programme 2015, with demonstrative character. LIFE MCUBO Project focuses on the thematic priorities ‘Environment and Efficient Use of Resources’, Water.
The main objective of the MCUBO Project is to minimize the environmental impact related to water management in the subsectors with the highest water consumption (meat, juices and canned vegetables) through an effective demonstration, at 3 industrial plants, of an integral management system based on:
- The implementation of a new low-cost wireless monitoring technology.
- Detailed modelling of the sub-sectors´ processes and the water management to propose improvement actions.
- The improvement actions will be validated in the specific pilot plant.
- Specific water management implementation on continuous improvement process in each company.
DURATION: September 2016-August 2019
BUDGET: 911.747,00€
AMOUNT OF EU CONTRIBUTION (LIFE PROGRAMME): 526.747,00€

GENERAL OBJECTIVES
The main objective of the MCUBO Project is to minimize the environmental impact related to water management in the subsectors with the highest water consumption (meat, juices and canned vegetables) through an effective demonstration, at 3 industrial plants, of an integral management system based on:

Monitoring Technology
The implementation of a new low-cost wireless monitoring technology, Plug&Lean system.

Detailed Modeling
Detailed modeling of the sub-sectors´ processes, that will serve to propose improvement actions and demonstrate its effectiveness before being implemented (easing the decision making and minimizing risks)

Implementation
Specific water management implementation on continuous improvement process in the three demonstrators companies.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

- A water consumption reduction at the three demonstrative companies of:
At meat industry, a 30%.
At juices industry, a 26%.
At canned vegetables industry, a 25%. - An electric and thermal energy consumption reduction at the three demonstrative companies of:
Electric Energy:
At meat industry, a 5%.
At juices industry, a 7%.
At canned vegetables industry, a 5%.
Thermal Energy:
At meat industry, a 18%
At juices industry, a 20%
At canned vegetables industry, a 15% - Favor the decision making process, based in a new indicator that relates both consumptions, in a way that allows amore efficient justification of actions.
- To enable a posterior European scale replication at meat, juices and canned vegetables subsectors companies, as well as others food and drink industry subsectors, by modeling its industrial processes.
- Contribute in the writing of the new BREF´s edition, by providing relevant sector´s data to the Joint
Research Center, located in Sevilla, whom in October 2014 initiated the process to its actualization.
